Féile Dánnerstag Number Three kicks off next Friday 11th November at 1pm in Theatre 1 of the Irish World Academy when Irish language, singer and spoken word/slam poet Julie Goo (aka Julie Field) will perform her work to original tracks by DJ Mike Millis. Refreshments will be offered. Julie and DJ Millis are frequent collaborators whose work can be heard here https://slcshelovescalpol.bandcamp.com/
Julie is a bilingual writer and singer from Cork who has performed her rap and spoken word poetry extensively, both nationally and internationally. Winner of the Heart of Gold Slam in 2019, her poetry collection Dána (Coiscéim) was published in 2021 to great acclaim. She has featured in numerous spoken word and arts festivals in Ireland, such as Body and Soul, Electric Picnic, TedX Cork, and Cork Midsummer Festival. She has a MA in Irish from University College Cork and is a primary teacher in an Educate Together school in Cork. After her performance, she’ll be interviewed by Prof Eoin Devereux, Centre for the Study of Popular Music and Culture.
The Festival Dánnerstag Directors, Prof. Gisela Holfter and Dr. Sorcha de Brún, wish to thank Foras na Gaeilge for funding this exciting venture in the Irish language. They also gratefully acknowledge the excellent cooperation with the Centre for the Study of Popular Music and Culture and the support by Aonad na Gaeilge and the Irish World Academy for hosting the event. Julie's poems will be heard in the Irish original, in English and in German, many translated here for the first time by Dr Angelika Hansert and Dr Sorcha de Brún. This promises to be a really interesting and innovative occasion and not to be missed!
