SLSS Hub team member Dr Megan Ryan presented at this year’s North South Criminology Conference. Megan’s presentation was entitled ‘Developing a standardised measure for potential use across Youth Diversion and targeted youth justice programmes in Ireland’.
Megan’s presentation provided a brief overview of the SLSS Hub, as well as where her work fits within this. The presentation covered the value of a standardised self-report measure for young people in Youth Diversion and youth justice programmes in Ireland. It discussed how the measure has been developed to date, including the emphasis on ensuring it is both evidence informed and policy relevant. The presentation included the importance of factors that influence antisocial & offending behaviour. This included detailing how both academic literature and policy considerations were used when investigating what concepts/factors are important to be included in the measure. Megan discussed how expert opinion was also utilised thus far to inform the work, as well as the key concepts that came from this work that will potentially be explored within the measure.
The conference took place June 17-19 in Queens University Belfast & Ulster University. Further details are available about the North South Criminology Conference.
