Thanks to funding received from the AHSS Faculty Research Committee and the Department of Sociology, Dr Emily Murphy was able to present a research paper entitled ‘Changes in gender inequality among young people with disabilities’ at an international conference in Switzerland. The conference “LIVES & NCCR — on the move International Conference: Mobility in the Life Course” was held in Geneva on the 5th of November 2024.
This international conference included world-leading experts drawn from a range of social science disciplines, including demography and sociology. An important keynote was given by an ERC-grant holder on migration trajectories. Dr Murphy’s paper session was aimed at understanding ‘Gender and the life course’. Her research paper analysed rural/urban trends of higher educational attainment for those with and without disabilities in Ireland since 2002. The conference was a great opportunity to showcase the use of Irish census data; highlight UL research abroad; and to promote the MSc in Sociology and Data Analytics to students and colleagues based in universities across Europe.
