Japan quiz winners

On Thursday, 13th March, nearly 150 transition year students across the country participated in the All-Ireland Japan Quiz Night 2025. The event was streamed via Zoom as it was concurrently held at five different locations, including the University of Limerick. UL hosted 23 students from Coláiste Muire (Ennis) and Villiers School (Limerick). The event was inaugurated by Mr. Norimasa Yoshida, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Ireland, and was hosted by Dr Erika Marcet, Head of the Japanese Section (MLAL). Third-year students of Japanese Meg Waters (BA Applied Languages) and Jack Lawlor (BEd with Languages), as well as Aja Barbic (Language Learning Hub), contributed to making this a very successful event. 

During the event, students partook in a quiz via Kahoot about Japanese language and culture, and the best three teams received wonderful Japan-related prizes. The quiz was followed by a reception, where the TY students got to eat Japanese food from a local restaurant. First Prize: Gambatte Bremore (Bremore Educate Together, Balbriggan) - Godwin Mekoun Loko, Galvin Pouela, Jane Ryan, Eli O'Brien Second Prize: The 3 Amigas (Colaiste Muire, Ennis) - Evaine Browne, Alice Weir, Olivia Bogiel Third Prize: Besto Tomodachi (Villiers School, Limerick) - Olivia Lambert, Clodagh Lambert, Connie He, Saoirse Edmond The second and third winning teams were located in UL.

 This event was co-organised by the Japanese Section at the School of Modern Languages & Applied Linguistics (UL), the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (DCU) and the Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI). The event was funded by PPLI, the Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan.
