Big group of 4 year japanese students in the globe
Wednesday, 16 October 2024

On Friday, 11th October, 9 fourth-year students from the Japanese Section of MLAL presented their posters in Japanese. The posters focused on food from various countries, including India, Japan, Germany, France, and, of course, Ireland. The event took place in The Globe from 2 to 4 pm and was a great success. The audience, over 70 attendees, included transition year and Leaving Certificate students from Villiers School (Limerick) studying Japanese, Japanese students learning English at the UL Language Centre, students from UL’s Japanese Section, and study abroad Japanese students in UL. Presenters delivered their posters multiple times to different groups, while students listened to the different presentations, asked questions and even provided some encouraging comments and feedback. After the presentations, students gathered in smaller groups to introduce themselves and discuss food and other topics both in English and Japanese. The event concluded with some snacks and refreshments.

There was a great atmosphere on the day, lots of laughter and many opportunities for language and cultural exchange. The Japanese Section would like to thank the Language Learning Hub, the Language Centre and The Globe for their help in hosting this event. We would also like to thank Rachel Mooney (Villiers School) and Teaching Assistant Mie Shimbayashi for their support. Photographs from the event can be viewed on the  UL Japanese Instagram.
