My essay was highly commended in the History category of the Global Undergraduate Awards 2022, placing in the top 10% of entries in this category. The Global Undergraduate Awards is open to students that received an A or equivalent grade for a piece of university coursework. The programme accepts submissions in 25 disciplines worldwide. These submissions are accepted through a completely anonymous online platform and are evaluated by a group of professional academics.
The essay, entitled 'The Highs and Lows of Pilot’s Salt: an assessment of amphetamine usage by the combatants of the Second World War', was submitted as part of a final-year undergraduate history module in modern European history taught by Prof. Jan Plamper. The essay discussed how amphetamine and methamphetamine were tested and produced in Germany, Japan, the US, and Britain and in what ways they were consumed, with particular emphasis on their distribution to military personnel, in World War II. It is due to be published online as part of the GUA Undergraduate Library.
