Ailbhe Nic Giolla Chomhaill, Léann na Gaeilge, delivered an invited guest lecture at the Comhdháil ar Litríocht agus ar Chultúr na Gaeilge (Conference on Irish language Literature and Culture) which was held at the University of Galway 27-28 September.
Ailbhe's paper was entitled 'Scéal úr nó Seanscéal? An tÉiceatíopa Áitiúil i mBéaloideas na mBan' (The Local Ecotype in Wonder Tales narrated by Women). The paper drew on research carried out by Ailbhe as part of her Fulbright scholarship at the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusciology at Indiana University, Bloomington, earlier this year. Aengus Ó Fionnagáin of Léann na Gaeilge also delivered a paper at the conference. Aengus' paper was entitled Ómós áite: Bailiúchán na Scol agus mionlogainmneacha na hÉireann (Sense of Place: the Schools' Folklore Collection and minor placenames in Ireland).
The Comhdháil ar Litríocht agus ar Chultúr na Gaeilge is held at the University of Galway annually and it brings together delegates from Irish language and literature departments throughout Ireland and Europe. The theme for this year's conference was Ómós Áite (Sense/Reverence of Place).
