On Saturday 8th February, 12 Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI) students studying Japanese online were invited to UL to take their Leaving Certificate mock exam. This was not only an opportunity to undertake the necessary LC assessment, but also a well-deserved social gathering for students who have very few in-person classes throughout the year.
Despite their initial nerves, the students ended up having a busy but very enjoyable day. They experienced calligraphy for the first time, had their first taste of Japanese miso soup and even got the valuable opportunity to chat with generous volunteer students studying Japanese in UL. The leaving certificate students gained valuable insights into life at UL and took plenty of great advice with them about studying Japanese and other languages.
This event was organised by Dr Erika Marcet (MLAL) and Paul Finn (PPLI) with the help of Sou, Thomas and Gonzague (Bachelor of Business with Japanese), Ben and Leo (Bachelor of Education with Japanese) and Lily (BA Applied Languages).
