MLAL Linguistics Researcher publishes RTE Brainstorm article on Words of the Year 2024.

RTE Brainstorm published an article on "All you ever wanted to know about the Words of the Year"  by Gail Flanagan, a PhD Candidate in the School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics (MLAL). 

The piece delves into the linguistic word formation processes that prompt the constant creation of new words. The selection process that dictionary providers follow to nominate their Words of the Year is also described, including lots of examples from this and previous years lists. 

Gail also featured on the Sean Moncrieff show (on Monday, 9th December) for a lively chat about the relevance of these Words of the Year to our daily lives.
