On November 15th and 16th, UCC hosted the Annual Conference for the Irish Association for Applied Linguistics (IRAAL).
The theme of the conference was Diversity and Identity in Applied Linguistics. Erika Marcet (Japanese Section) and Paul Finn (University of Galway) presented their research "Fostering inclusion through informal (digital) language learning" on language learning and teaching beyond the classroom and foreign language enjoyment.
Marta Giralt & Maria Rieder (TESOL/Linguistics Section) presented their paper "Representation of minorities in Irish media discourse: From underrepresentation and differentiation to 'Tell Your Own Story'".
PhD candidate Zehor Ktitni also presented her research "Investigating (im)politeness strategies in email communication: Case of Algerian PhD supervisees and their supervisors".
Erika Marcet was also appointed as the Web Editor and member of IRAAL's Executive Committee (2024-2027), succeeding Silvia Benini (Academic Integrity Educational Developer, UL).
