Dr Yvonne Cleary spent a week at Pwani University, Kenya from February 17th to 24th, supported by International Credit Mobility funding. Yvonne is collaborating with colleagues at the University of Applied Sciences, Karlsruhe, Germany, and at Pwani University, Kenya, to run the first year of a new Master’s programme in Communication and Media at Pwani University. This programme, the first of its kind in Africa, was launched in Autumn 2023 following a successful pilot in 2022/23.

The programme builds capacity and responds to societal needs in the field of technical communication. The project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst -- DAAD). The main objective of this trip was to teach on site in Kenya and to meet the current cohort of students in person. Teaching up to now has been online. A secondary objective was to continue curriculum development. Yvonne also took part in a panel discussion and delivered a presentation about technical communication during an event to launch the Master’s in Communication and Media for 2024/25.
