‘Translation as a career’: A translation workshop for secondary school students

On Thursday, 9 February, Prof Jean Conacher and Dr Laura Linares (MLAL) collaborated with colleagues from Dublin City University and the European Commission Translation Unit and welcomed over 70 post-primary languages students from across Ireland to a morning of online talks about UG language programmes and future career opportunities in translation. The highlight of the event was a range of language-specific workshops facilitated by EU staff translators and supported by MLAL colleagues in French (Celia Boudjada & Charly Poquereau), German (Lara Jacobus & Dominik Kohl) and Spanish (Ana Martin & Marta Fortes). The translators then worked with students on a short document/article, discussing the main challenges it poses and how staff translators address these as part of their daily work.
