Be open to learn anything and expect the unexpected. I originally felt it was going to be a completely different industry to what I had interest in at the time. But it ultimately led me to understand and work towards building the framework of what sparked my career after graduation

Sherrif's co-op experience in a seemingly unrelated industry laid the groundwork for his successful post-graduation career. Sheriff emphasises the importance of making new friends in a professional setting and understanding that dynamic, which has been crucial in his journey from a full-time musician to running a record label and working with Nike.

Tell us a bit about yourself, what course did you study in UL, what has your career looked like to date?

My name is Sheriff Adegoke, also known as Breezy iDeyGoke. A rapper and music producer currently based in Louth. I studied in UL and graduated with a BSc. Music, Media and Performance Technology in 2016. My career since then has been an interesting one with a few years a full-time musician, touring and releasing music to running a record label and now working with Nike.

Tell us a bit about your co-op placement, what organisation did you work with and what year it took place?

My co-op placement was in London with OPP Media which was real estate marketing company. At the time, 2014 they specialised in email campaigns. I got to experience the pace of working in that environment. From designing email marketing campaigns, to organising award shows and presenting and conferences I was really able to develop myself in what felt like a really short period of time.

What impact did your co-op placement have on your future career?

The impact of co-op for me was inspiring. I found a mentor who I'm still in contact with today. It ultimately opened my understanding of the importance of building a network. The principles of client management and interaction really helped with my understanding of building and nurturing a fan base in the digital space.

What piece of advice would you give to students going on co-op now?

Be open to learn anything and expect the unexpected. I originally felt it was going to be a completely different industry to what I had interest in at the time. But it ultimately led me to understand and work towards building the framework of what sparked my career after graduation. I'd also say it was a nice experience to make new friends in professional setting and understand that dynamic.
