Student Spotlight: Ruby Whyte

As an international business student, I had the unique opportunity to complete my co-op placement abroad. I did this as an accounting intern in Phoenix, Arizona. This experience not only allowed me to develop my professional skills but also offered a deeper understanding of the American business landscape, particularly in the West. Throughout my placement, I was fortunate to be part of an incredible team that supported me at every stage of my co-op. 

I had the privilege of participating in monthly budget meetings, working closely with the Director of Finance and Accounting, and contributing to various financial processes. These opportunities enhanced my knowledge of US accounting practices and provided valuable insight into high-level decision-making processes. 

One of the highlights of my experience was the chance to explore new cities during my weekends. I travelled to iconic destinations such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, and New York, broadening my cultural perspective and appreciation for the diversity within the United States. I also had the unforgettable experience of visiting the Grand Canyon and attending an exciting baseball game at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix. 

Overall, my time in Phoenix was a rewarding blend of professional growth, personal development, and adventure. This experience also deepened my appreciation for American culture.
