The Faculty of Education and Health Sciences has adopted a standard approach to the conversion of percentage-to-grade bands. The standardised EHS % grade to literal grade conversion is as follows:
Percentage Grade | Literal Grade |
≥80% | A1 |
≥75% | A2 |
≥70% | B1 |
≥65% | B2 |
≥60% | B3 |
≥55% | C1 |
≥50% | C2 |
≥45% | C3 |
≥40% | D1 |
≥35% | D2 |
<35% | F |
The precise assessment requirements, weightings, and indicative grade descriptors corresponding to each grade, will be communicated to students in Week 1.
The Faculty of Education and Health Sciences has adopted a standard approach to the application of academic regulation 2.6.3 and 2.7.6, colloquially known as the ‘discretionary band procedures’ as follows;
The Faculty of Education and Health Sciences will recommend the higher award to the Academic Council Examination Board for a candidate whose final cumulative QCA is not more than .05 less than the QCA required for a first class, 2.1 or 2.2 classification.
For clarity, the recommendations made by EHS are as follows:
QCA | Award (EHS) |
≥3.40 | First class honours |
≥3.35 | Will be considered by the Academic Council for First Class Honours (EHS will recommend) |
≥3.30 | Will be considered by the Academic Council for First Class Honours (EHS will not recommend) |
≥3.00 | Second class honours grade 1 (2.1) |
≥2.95 | Will be considered by the Academic Council for Second Class Honours grade 1 (2.1) (EHS will recommend) |
≥2.90 | Will be considered by the Academic Council for Second Class Honours grade 1 (2.1) (EHS will not recommend) |
≥2.60 | Second class honours grade 2 (2.2) |
≥2.55 | Will be considered by the Academic Council for Second Class Honours grade 2 (2.2) (EHS will recommend) |
≥2.50 | Will be considered by the Academic Council for Second Class Honours grade 2 (2.2) (EHS will not recommend) |
≥2.00 | Third class honours |
Feedback on coursework may arise in multiple formats, be given via multiple modes, and may arise formally or informally within the learning environment or from different forms of assessment, including (but not limited to), assessment-for-learning, assessment-of-learning, and assessment-as-learning modes. Further, feedback may be provided via written or oral means, at the individual or group (e.g., class) level, and may be directed by the teacher or the student. Students are required to familiarize themselves with the modes of feedback available to them in their modules.
EHS has a wide variety of programmes and learning environments, with varying student numbers. Consequently, the timelines for the provision of feedback to students will differ between modules. Timelines for feedback, where it is possible, should be clearly communicated to students. Where feedback is available, EHS has in place a policy to provide this feedback within three weeks of the assessment submission deadline.
