Overall Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings

UL is ranked second in Ireland and is the only Irish university to have improved its ranking.

The University of Limerick moved up to 61 out of 1,963 universities in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.

These rankings are a global performance benchmark, measuring the contribution a university makes towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) with UL ranked in the top 50 in the world and top in Ireland in four of the individual SDGs:

  • SDG10: Reduced Inequalities ranked 21 compared to 25 last year.
  • SDG11: Sustainable Cities and Communities ranked 23 compared to 58 last year.
  • SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth ranked 49 to 31 last year.
  • SDG5: Gender Equality ranked 60 compared to 94 last year.

Athena Swan

UL takes great pride in being one of the first institutions in Ireland to achieve (in July 2015) an Athena Swan (AS) Bronze Institution Award.

Since then, we have worked hard to embed AS across all faculties and departments. UL is proud to say all academic units hold bronze or silver awards.
