Dr Ian Kenny joined UL in February 2007. Teaching biomechanics, functional anatomy and research methods he also works within the Biomechanics Research Unit in his specialist area of applied sports biomechanics and musculoskeletal modelling.
He lectured previously at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown and was a member of the Sports & Exercise Sciences Research Institute at UU.He was awarded a DEL CAST research fellowship in 2003, a PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Ulster in 2006 and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Sports Science also from UU in 2003. Ian's doctoral research was on `Biomechanical and modelling analysis of shaft length effects on golf driving performance' and he worked within the R&D team for the R&A Rules Ltd. in St. Andrews for the duration of his PhD research.
Ian led the design and foundation of the MSc in Sports Performance launched January 2012 a finalist in 2015 national PG programme of the year, a dedicated golf biomechanics research facility at the University of Limerick, and was academic coordinator for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA USA) Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) professional accreditation in Ireland 2012-2015. Ian has represented Ireland internationally at junior and senior level in athletics.
