Curriculum Design and Development
Are you or your programme team designing a new programme and modules or are you revising existing programmes/modules?
If so, the Curriculum Development Team at CTL offers a series Curriculum Development Workshops that may be helpful for course directors or module leaders as they design programmes/modules and prepare programme/module applications for approval. Equally, you are welcome to arrange a follow-up consultation with the Curriculum Development Leads in CTL. Programme teams are welcome to arrange group consultations on programme and module design and development for new and existing programmes. Please contact curriculumdevelopment@ul.ie to arrange a consultation.
Prior to submission of programmes and modules for approval or review, you are required to consult with CTL on the design of the programme to ensure alignment with UL’s Integrated Curriculum Development Framework (ICDF) and to ensure that the learning outcomes are articulated in accordance with UL’s guidelines for writing learning outcomes. Please see below for further guidance on writing learning outcomes.
You can request a consultation by emailing curriculumdevelopment@ul.ie

Particular attention should be paid to the Pedagogy and Learning Environment to ensure that the learning environment support the achievement of the learning outcome and aligns with UL’s strategic ambitions to embed the synergy between teaching and research through research-led, challenge-driven, experiential, and collaborative learning.

Writing Learning Outcomes This presentation guides you through the careful design of programme and module learning outcomes.
These guidelines should be used in conjunction with UL’s comprehensive guide to Writing Learning Outcomes: A Guide for Academics, which is available below.
Here you will find a guide which is now the sectorally approved resource for helping people to think through the use and assessment of learning outcomes in the teaching of their subjects and is also particularly useful for people designing new programmes or changing existing ones.
