HR Business Partners (Managers) work closely with Faculty and Department leaders, in the area in which they are assigned, to shape and implement effective HR strategies and programmes.

Role of the HR Business Partner

The HR Business Partners are a team of HR professionals who support the strategic and operational objectives of the University by providing a HR Lead service to management and staff within the specific Faculties and Divisions to which they are assigned. HRBP’s are strategic partners to the Deans, Heads of Schools / Departments / Faculties and to the Leaders of the Academic and Support Divisions.  They support the University’s ambition to have a positive and engaging working environment in which all employees can flourish.

The role of the HRBP is similar to that of a local HR Manager. HRBP’s act as an interface between individual Faculties and Support Divisions and specialist HR colleagues within the Human Resources Division. They operate in a consulting and advisory mode, to ensure appropriate and fit for purpose people strategies are implemented that are aligned with the University’s objectives, values and goals.

Working as part of the senior management team within a specific area enables the HRBP to acquire an excellent understanding of the core business of the University, enabling them to deliver real value. HRBP’s provide a combination of strategic and operational business leadership, expertise, support, information and advice to their Faculties and Support Divisions and they play a key role in supporting HR initiatives and strategic projects. The HRBP’s deal with a broad range of HR issues including  employee relations, employee engagement, performance management, talent management, learning and development, organisation culture, organisational design, change management and organisational communication.

HRBP’s also provide specialist advice and assistance to individual employees who may require confidential guidance, advice, support, coaching or facilitation to address issues of particular concern to them.
